Snacks & Treats

Children will bring in their own "individual" healthy snack each day. Since the parents will be furnishing the snack, the food will be restricted to their own child which means no sharing between the students due to so many different types of food allergies. Birthdays are celebrated and you may send in a special treat of your choice if desired. Summer birthdays are celebrated during the month of May.

Health

Children showing signs of an illness transmittable to others may not come to school. Contact the school immediately upon learning of your child contracting a communicable disease so we can post the information for other parents. The Director will contact the parents if any illnesses develop during school hours. Any child well enough to attend school will be considered well enough for outdoor play, weather permitting. Please dress children in proper shoes and jackets. In case of injury, parents will be notified.

Discipline

Discipline at our preschool includes discussion about the infraction, followed by redirection. On occasion, a "time out chair" will be used for no more than a few minutes. When the child is ready to interact appropriately, he/she may rejoin the group. If undesirable behavior becomes a pattern, parents will be contacted and a plan for improvement will be implemented. Please feel free to discuss any concerns you may have regarding your child. Nothing is too trivial. Any suspected cases of child abuse observed or recognized will be reported to the authorities.

Parent Participation

We invite parents or grandparents to volunteer in the classroom. In order to be a parent-helper, you must first attend the "Safe Environment Training" session. Parent participation may involve assistance in arts and craft projects, preparation of materials, being a parent-helper during a field trip or party, and sharing an expertise or job experience.

License

St. John's Preschool is licensed according to the regulations for Child Care Centers issued by the Colorado Department of Social Services. Staff members are certified and qualified according to state regulations.
