Our Mission Statement
We, the members of St. John the Baptist
Catholic Church, renew our lives through faith in Jesus Christ by
active participation in the works of prayer, service and evangelization.
We dedicate ourselves to service in the Kingdom of God.
Our History
The first church of St. John the Baptist was established in 1882.
Subsequently, the property was sold when the second larger church
was established at 4th and Collyer Streets.
In 1907 the Franciscan Sisters of St. Francis (Milwaukee, Wisconsin)
mistakenly left the train at Longmont instead of Loveland. They were
convinced to remain in Longmont and established St. Joseph's Academy
at Atwood and 5th Streets. In 1926, erection of what was to be St.
John's School began. (The old Atwood property was sold during the
depression years.)

To accommodate the growing population of Longmont, it was thought that
the original St. John's Church could be enlarged. However, the old
stone church was unstable because of its understructure and had
to be razed. The first service to be celebrated in the new church
was Midnight Mass in 1963. An addition to the church was completed
in 1999 and provides an adoration chapel, middle school classrooms,
meeting room, a gathering hall, gift shop, and parish office space.
From being a mission parish in the 1880's, St. John's has grown
to over 4200 families in 2006. The current school enrollment is
over 430 students enrolled.
