SJB Computer Fund

The use of computers as a tool of imparting knowledge to our students is a judicious tool in the hands of our teachers. Over the last few years, as we joined efforts to raise funds and install SMART Board interactive whiteboard in every classroom, we were able to manage our tradition of excellence with our current computers. However, as you know, the world of technology changes swiftly.  The lack of newer hardware technology is evident when using the up-to-date software versions for our SMART Boards, which are used daily in our classrooms. It is our highest priority to replace the computers of our teachers, as most of the technology is outdated by ten years. Our computer lab is also in need of a hardware and software technology makeover. The hardware technology in our computer lab is about five years old and most of the software is lagging by three generations. Student computers in our classrooms should also be replaced to continue as a valuable resource for our teachers. Finally, the computers of our administration need replacing to keep up with the advanced technology software available to us so we may provide you with accurate reporting and communications.

Most of our computers are running on Windows XP, with memory, processors, and hard drives which no longer support the minimum requirements to operate today’s software. Taking into account future growth, we are seeking to purchase computer systems with more memory, faster processors, and larger hard drives which will run on Windows 7.

Each computer system is approximately $1,000 each.  In order to replace all computers campus wide, we
require about $80,000, which will include an academic discount.  In order to keep our school technology consistent and to meet the necessary software requirements, we are soliciting monetary donations.

If you would like to assist us in this indispensable endeavor, all donations, large or small, will be greatly
appreciated! Please make your check payable to St. John the Baptist Catholic School and in the memo area write new computers.  Checks may be mailed to St. John the Baptist Catholic School, 350 Emery St., Longmont, Colorado 80501. You may also drop off your donation at our school during office hours.  Please remember that your donations are tax-deductible.  Thank you for your generous support in helping us to continue serving with a tradition of excellence in Catholic education!
